The area around Mt. Mitchell, at 6,684' above sea level the highest peak east of the Mississippi, offers a wide array of recreation opportunities. Besides hiking and camping, experience a great family adventure at Loafer's Glory Rafting and Tubing, including overnight rafting trips. In addition to whitewater rafting, Mountain Adventure Guides offers guided caving and rock climbing.  For a different view of the western NC mountains, try a horseback ride on scenic mountain trails at Wolf Laurel Stables.  At over 5,500' elevation on Big Bald Mountain, enjoy a 360º view of the Cherokee and Pisgah National Forests.
