The Communities of Surry County: Mount Airy, Pilot Mountain, Dobson and Elkin, offer something for everyone. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy riding down the breathtaking Blue Ridge Parkway, hiking at Pilot Mountain State Park, or canoeing on the Yadkin River.
 
Wildlife opportunities abound in Surry County. This encompasses some of the finest trout and bass fishing in the region along with other varieties, which can be reeled in at public sites, such as Fisher River Park near Dobson, and a number of private streams, lakes and ponds. The Mitchell River Game Land in Surry County is managed by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, and includes deer hunting.
 
Preservationists can take advantage of bird-watching and hawk migration activity at protected sites, such as Pilot Mountain and Stone Mountain state parks, where a wide variety of wildlife is abundant.
