Wondering where to go and what to do in Mitchell County?  The Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, Roan Mountain, Toe River, and the Nolichucky River are all natural attractions in the Mitchell County area.

Just 4 miles east of Bakersville on State Road 1211 (Cane Creek Road) is the Dellinger Grist Mill – established in 1867 and still operated by the same Dellinger family.

Quilts have long been a symbol of comfort, family, heritage and community.  The Toe River Arts Council launched the Quilt Trails Project resulting in the production of 33 quilt blocks hung on barns and buildings around Mitchell and Yancey Counties. Each quilt square is connected, by its pattern name,  history of the land, the building or the family. Click here to see a map and learn the stories.
