A visit to downtown West Jefferson will keep you busy for some time! Don't forget to visit Ashe County's first and only licensed craft beer micro-brewery on Main Street at Boondocks Brewing Tap Room & Restaurant. Also, just off Main Street, you can duck into the Ashe County Cheese Store, the Carolinas' only cheese factory. Ask the friendly owner, Mike Everhart, for a tour. While in West Jefferson, peruse the many art galleries and shops along main street. If art is your thing, the Ashe County Arts Council stages events throughout the year.

Downtown West Jefferson is also host to numerous public Main Street events like the "Gallery Crawl", the Bluegrass Concert and Street Dance, and "Christmas In July".

Just a few blocks away in Jefferson, the old county courthouse has been renovated into the Museum of Ashe County History. The 1904 courthouse is now a county cultural and railroad museum.
