Home to Linville Gorge

Whether it's canoeing the Catawba River, boating or sailing on Lake James, or hiking through the pristine wilderness of Linville Gorge, one thing is for certain. Burke County is well suited to the outdoor enthusiast!

Small towns throughout the county offer a particular charm not often found in larger metropolitan areas. The diversity of topography takes you from low rolling farmland on the south to the 3,400' rim of Linville Gorge on the north.

Nearby parks include South Mountain State Park (largest in the state), a new state park at Lake James, and Pisgah National Forest. Four challenging golf courses beckon pro and doffer alike, and there is a five-mile long biking trail along the Catawba River.

The Blue Ridge Parkway winds through the northern part of the county, and The Mountain To The Sea Trail passes near Linville Gorge.
