Balcony of the Blue Ridge
Here on the Balcony of the Blue Ridge you can gaze out across North Carolina's mountain ridges for almost 100 miles to the horizon. Our county offers North Carolina's best ski areas, coupled with such well-known mountain peaks as Grandfather, Sugar, and Beech Mountains.
We boast the highest county seat (Newland at 3,621') and the highest incorporated town (Beech Mountain at 5,506') east of the Mississippi.
We're also known as the "Christmas Tree Capital of the World". A visit to our mountains offers vacation possibilities not available at lower elevations.
Cooler summer mornings make us the perfect second home destination, while our winter attractions, coupled with numerous fine dining restaurants, create a four-seasons environment.
For more information on this high mountain county, go to the Avery County Chamber of Commerce or Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce.
